Open Call for Night Lights Proposal - NHB, SNF 2018
THE LIGHT WITHIN
The design proposes an installation that critiques the passing of time and in its wake, the making of history. This is especially apt for an installation(s) in a heritage site that is Bras Basah.Bugis. The installation draws on the hourglass motif of falling "sand grains" to represent the passing of time. Through the falling of "sand grains", the operation of revealing and uncovering was utilised over the 8 days to invite visitors' participation and foster agency over the making of history. It is hoped that when the inner light sculpture is revealed and visitors in turn find the "spotlight" turned back on themselves, they would realise the curatorial responsibility they each carry towards a shared Singapore history.
